Previous Business of the Month Winners

FEBRUARY 2021 - cLEGG AUTO

Picture
Steve Clegg began working in the auto business for his uncle cleaning up the shop and busting tires in Orem when he was 16 years old. After picking up the business, he eventually became an owner at his uncles auto shop. Steve's brother, Kevin, joined him and ran the front counter while attending college. Steve and Kevin both left the store in Orem and opened their own repair shop in 1998 in Spanish Fork, and Kevin left to attend graduate school a year later. Steve continued to build the business developing a solid reputation through his hard work and customer service. Steve partnered with his brother-in-law Johnny, a mechanic, in 2007 and opened up a Provo location. Then, in 2012, Kevin moved back to Utah. The three of them all partnered together and opened an even larger Provo location. Steve and Kevin began to receive so many customers who needed help finding a reliable vehicle that in the fall of 2014 they decided to begin selling used vehicles. That business has been so successful that Steve now runs the Auto Sales business full time. In, 2019, they opened their newest location in American Fork. You can find someone from Clegg Auto at almost every event the Chamber holds and they have quickly become an integral part of the community. At Clegg Auto, they believe that their future as a business relies on the relationships they have with our customers. They take pride in their honesty and transparency in everything they do.

JANUARY 2021 - WATER GARDENS THEATER

Picture
What makes the Water Gardens Theaters different from other movie theaters? Their ticket prices are lower than any of the neighboring theaters and their concessions are a great value as well. They show only G, PG, and PG-13 films and are closed on Sundays. They also offer NO-FEE online ticketing so you can buy your tickets and choose your seats online before coming to the theater.
Water Gardens Theaters believes in supporting groups that support the Water Gardens. They do fundraising events for local non-profits and partner with local PTAs and libraries to support literacy programs for kids. They have become a popular place to see a blockbuster and are a positive influence in the community as well.
When the theater had to close its doors because of the pandemic, they were quick to innovate and created an outdoor drive-in theater to be able to continue to show movies. They have developed new and creative ways to attract patrons and give back to the community throughout the year.

DECEMBER 2020 - lEAPS & BOUNDS DANCE ACADEMY

Picture
Leaps and Bounds Dance Academy is a performance-based, non-competition dance studio centrally located in American Fork off of State Street. They believe that dance should be an affordable experience with students receiving quality technique from experienced staff. They avoid unnecessary fees and expensive costumes to allow all students who wish to dance have that opportunity. Dance can be taught with proper placement and technique while still enjoying movement at its core and can be an incredible outlet to expressing emotions.
At Leaps and Bounds, their dancers are not simply another number. They care deeply about their students - their lives, their well-being, and their families. "We can't always choose the music life plays for us, but we can choose how we dance to it." Dance can teach lessons that go beyond movement, and they hope to instill those lessons in their dancers as they spend time with them each week.
The owners of Leaps and Bounds are actively engaged in community events and have been innovative in figuring out how to deliver lessons to students during the pandemic. They are a great example of a business that has been able to shift and pivot to stay relevant and that believes in supporting and being a part of the community they are in.

november 2020 - wallaby's smokehouse

Picture
The idea for Wallabys Smokehouse was born with their founder's dream of combining his love for both the Outback and delicious smoked meats. Their menu was built from fusing authentic Australian Cuisine and beverages, such as their Melbourne Burger, Shrimp on the Barbie, and Bundaberg Sodas, with traditional southern BBQ offerings. Whether it's the Smashers, Hand-Pulled Pork, or the Beef n' Reef platter, there is one thing for certain, at Wallaby's Smokehouse you will get a unique combination of food and atmosphere. For over a decade they have offered their guests bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and delicious food made from scratch. Come visit one of their 2 locations to be a part of their ongoing story!
Wallaby's has been a leader in the restaurant industry in adapting and creating innovative ways to do business during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were one of the first companies to introduce a new drive-thru and curbside pick-up system, they showed tremendous support to graduating seniors by offering free meal cards and cinnamon rolls during our Main Street Cruise event, and they continue to make donations to community events, most recently Steel Days.

october 2020 - courage reins

Picture
Courage Reins is situated at the base of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains in Highland, Utah and was founded in 1998. At Courage Reins they strive to improve the lives of individuals with physical, mental, and emotional challenges through equine-assisted therapies and to make their services available to all who seek alternative therapy, no matter their income or ability to pay.
In 2001, the land where Courage Reins stands today was purchased by a donor for the purpose of giving Courage Reins a permanent home. Such generosity continued in 2017, when the program was again gifted the significant donation of a new indoor arena, which supports the growing demand for equine therapy. The organization now has 14 staff members, more than 100 active volunteers, and a herd of 20 donated horses. They're thrilled to welcome more than 100 participants each week who come from throughout the state to find healing, happiness, and strength. Their programs have evolved to include equine-assisted therapies such as Therapeutic Riding, Mental and Behavioral Health, Occupational Therapy, Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Natural Horsemanship, and Military Services, and they are committed to continue providing high quality, effective, and exciting programs and services for years to come.
Since becoming a member of the Chamber and Lone Peak Business Alliance, they have become more and more active in networking events and one of their staff members recently participated as a panelist for the North Utah County Women in Business Luncheon. They have offered their facilities to host an LPBA meeting, and we look forward to working more with them in the future.

may 2020 - Jack's donuts

For three generations since 1961, Jack's Donuts has been making donuts and rolls that have kept customers lining up at the door for treats like tiger tails, caramel nut rolls, and applesauce donuts. In April 2011, after 50 years in business, they welcomed the grandson of founder Jack Marcum, Sr. as president of the company. Jack "Lee" Marcum III began working at Jack's when he was 14 years old but wasn't sure he wanted to run the business. However, after a 10 year hiatus, he returned to the family business to buy Jack's Donuts just as his father had done nearly 30 years before.
Jack's continues to grow as new franchises are opening around the U.S. The Marcum family began a relationship of trust that has been building for three generations for over 50 years. Richerd and Becky Clark joined the Jack’s Donuts family in 2019 and are enjoying amazing success in American Fork. They are building a loyal following and look forward to winning over new customers. They keep coming up with new variations of donuts and their donut holes are to die for!
